Alex Smith

Alex has been a stalwart in the commercial property industry since 1998, bringing a wealth of experience and a profound understanding of the market's intricacies. Throughout Alex’s distinguished career, a key focus has been on building professional working relationships with private clients who value expertise and appreciate experience across a broad range of commercial real estate matters.

Alex commenced his commercial agency career in Sydney, where he worked on commercial and industrial developments in the North Ryde and Lane Cove regions with Chesterton International. Here, Alex honed his skills in property development and client relations, setting a strong foundation for future endeavours.

In 2001, Alex took a pivotal role with Canberra Airport management, contributing to the team that delivered non-aviation commercial developments on the land surrounding the airport. Alex’s core responsibility was to ensure that these developments were designed to meet market demands as well as identifying and negotiating commercial leases with targeted tenants, including Defence and private sector Defence contractors.

In addition to these duties, Alex’s integrative role encompassed working with the team to manage the commercial assets with the aim of retaining tenants and ensure the sustainable growth of the airport's commercial precinct.

In 2012, Alex transitioned from Canberra Airport to create the first Laing+Simmons Commercial Property in Canberra, a venture that further showcased his entrepreneurial spirit and industry acumen. This entity was rebranded as Sentia Real Estate in July 2020, evolving into the dynamic and influential firm it is today.

Sentia was sold to Ray White Commercial Canberra on 1 July 2026 and the whole Sentia team are now continuing their carears at Ray White Commercial.
